I posted earlier today this horrific story about torture. Now, due to my job, I did some research on the subject. Not to find if it is true or not. I have little doubt in my mind as to the true nature of it, but more to try and trace the “media curve” behind it. In appearance, the story broke yesterday on ABC News site, together with the footage of the broken bones and all. However, this is not the first time the story, in its current incarnation, hits the news. As a matter of fact, it was first picked in June 2008 by USA Today. And the report from USA Today is almost verbatim the one in ABC News, to the point they use the same quotes and sources. Now don’t get me wrong, I am happy the victim is getting exposure about his ordeal, so I am not questioning whether the story should have been published or not. What I wonder is, why did it take almost a year for all news sources to pick it and run with it?
